Who we are

Abstract Essence Ltd is responsible for the personal data described here. We are registered in England and Wales, company number 17050130, with our registered office at 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ. You can contact us at info@abstractessence.com.

When you visit this website

This website does not use cookies, analytics or tracking tools. Like most websites, our web server keeps a short technical log of each visit: your IP address, the page requested, the time, your browser type and the page that linked to us. We use these logs only to keep the site secure and to fix problems, and they are deleted after 14 days. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure website.

When you email us

If you email us, or reply to an email we sent you, we keep your email address and your message so we can reply. We keep them for as long as we need to deal with your message. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in answering you.

Businesses we contact

We sometimes email businesses to offer a service we think is relevant to their work. We only contact limited companies and similar incorporated bodies. We do not send marketing emails to sole traders or partnerships unless they have agreed to it.

To find businesses to contact, we use public information: the register at Companies House, the company's own website, and search services that index public websites. We use the general contact address that a company publishes for enquiries, such as an info@ or hello@ address. We do not buy email lists and we do not guess personal email addresses.

A general business address is usually not personal data, but sometimes it can identify a person, and a reply from a person always does. Where that happens, our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in offering relevant services to businesses. We have weighed that interest against the rights of the people involved: we use only addresses a business has published for contact, the email is about the business's own work, we send at most one follow-up, and every email lets you opt out.

We keep a record of the company name, the address we used, when we contacted it and any reply. We delete this 12 months after our last contact, unless the business becomes a customer or asks us to keep in touch.

Opting out

Every email we send explains how to opt out. You can also email info@abstractessence.com at any time. Once you opt out, we stop contacting that address and add it to our suppression list. We keep the suppression list, holding only the address and the date of the request, so that we do not contact you again by mistake. You have an absolute right to object to direct marketing, and we will always respect it.

Information our research engine processes

Our engine reads publicly available information, such as public procurement notices, official records and public discussions, to find problems that many people report. Some of this text can include names or usernames that people chose to publish. We use it only to find patterns across many sources. We do not build profiles of individuals, we do not sell this information, and we do not publish personal details from it. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in researching unmet needs. If you would like us to remove something you wrote, email us and we will delete it.

Google user data

Our engine connects to Google APIs, including the Google Ads API, using only our own company Google account. We do not request, collect, store or share Google user data belonging to visitors or anyone else. Keyword planning data we receive from the Google Ads API is used only within our own research, and we do not sell it. If we ever add a feature that asks you to sign in with Google, we will update this policy before that feature goes live, and our use of data received from Google APIs will follow the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Who processes data for us

We use cloud hosting, AI, search and email sending providers, including Google Cloud, to run our website, our engine and our email. They process data only on our instructions. Some of them may process data outside the UK; where they do, we rely on the safeguards that UK data protection law requires.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:

Email info@abstractessence.com and we will reply within one month. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update it here and change the date at the top.
